THE STORY OF THE GREAT SEKHMET BANNER

Size: 26" x 56"

Sometime around the fall equinox in 1994, a desperate feeling came over me to paint a large Sekhmet. At the time, I didn't have any canvas. Nor did I have any means to buy canvas. I did find a couple of yards of light cotton fabric which I tacked onto a hard surface. I primed the fabric with several coats of white latex paint, still useable even though the can was old.

After the paint was dry, I drew the figure of Sekhmet directly onto the surface. I have seldom painted so large, or so fast. I did not fret about getting the exact proportions or about symmetry. I just allowed the process to happen. Within a day, the details of the Sekhmet figure emerged--standing, with ankh in Her right hand and a lotus wand in Her left, upon a cartouche of Her hieroglyphs.

After the painting was completed, I noted that it was very thin and much too delicate to be stretched upon a wooden frame. How interesting that I also happened to have several yards of red fabric on hand. The solution was simple. I sewed the two pieces together and created a banner which I was able to hang immediately.

I enjoyed my large Sekhmet banner for two years before the importance of having a portable Sekhmet image dawned upon me. The banner is easy to roll up and stow and has been with me for every Sekhmet Empowerment I have performed. Lady Sekhmet

THE SEKHMET BANNER GOES PLACES

During the 1996 Fall Equinox, a group of priestesses gathered at the Sekhmet Temple in Cactus Springs, Nevada to honor the Lion-headed Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet, thank Her for personal blessings, and request Her empowerment.

This was the first remarkable event presided over by this particular Sekhmet banner. In the middle of the Mojave Desert, at the moment the sun's rays were at their hottest, we consciously called upon the power of Sekhmet to manifest Her energies upon the Earth plane. We were able to successfully pull in Sekhmet's pulsing energy through our bodies and into the earth where it dispersed itself through out the meridian-like channels of the earth's grid.

It's been over 2000 years since a group of Sekhmet priestesses gathered in Sekhmet's name at a Temple built in Sekhmet's honor to call upon Sekhmet's energy to manifest. The Lion-headed Egyptian Goddess responded strongly.

Sharron as HathorTwo months after the First Sekhmet Empowerment, I met Sharron Rose a very accomplished Fulbright scholar in sacred dance and embodier of The Goddess. Sharron and I immediately recognized Sekhmet's energy within each other and have been friends ever since.

One year after our initial meeting, in 1997, on November's full moon, I was dancing the Dance of Sekhmet in full embodiment at the Star House in Boulder, Colorado. Simultaneously Sharron embodied Simhamukha, the Tibetan form of Sekhmet. According to Sharron, Simhamukha is "the primordial goddess of power, Queen of the Dakinis, the fierce protectress who dances wildly amidst the raging fires of wisdom, transforming negative emotions into enlightened awareness."

I have brought The Sekhmet Banner to all public functions in which the energy of Sekhmet is to be brought forth--in Boulder, Colorado as mentioned above but also in New York City (March, 1998) where Sharron and I repeated our Sekhmet and Simhamukha Sacred Dance empowerments with the addition of Balat, the Jaquar Goddess, performed by Jewel Bittinger.

In October of 1998, Loreon Vigne invited me to the Convocation of the Fellowship of Isis at her beautiful facility, Isis Oasis in California. I was her "mystery guest." The Sekhmet banner hung in a 500 year old fir tree overlooking the empowerment circle prepared for me by Sekhmet Priestesses Sonia Sierra Wolf and Nicki Scully. Then I conducted a formal Sekhmet Empowerment ritual for about 80 attendees, including Lady Olivia Roberston, founder of the Fellowship of Isis.

I do not know when the next time I will be prevailed upon to pull the energies of Sekhmet through my body and into a circle of people gathered for that purpose, but when I am, I will be accompanied by an almost life size image of Sekhmet that has become an old friend to me.

The Great Sekhmet banner is a powerful teaching about being prepared when Spirit of Creativity comes to visit. The lesson is about spontaneity and not allowing oneself to be stopped by something as insignificant as not having the proper art materials.

Sekhmet Banners similar to the one I've brought to Sekhmet Empowerments are available for purchase.
